Clear purpose

Every effective and successful team should begin with a purpose. The vision, mission, goal or focus of the team has to be clearly defined and it should be accepted by all team members. Once a clear reason for establishing the team is agreed by all team members, each member should signed as a form of a charter. Ownership and acceptance then is gained breeding confidence.
Do you find it necessary setting aside your personal goals in favor of the teams goals   ? What will you do if they  both contradict? What will you do as a team member if the team is not achieving its goals and objectives?
